Training for intermediate and executive verification service includes a practical part (at the individual verification offices) and a theoretical part (course at the Academy with final competitive examination).
Courses for executive verification service are held from January to May every year. Courses for intermediate verification service take place from September to December.
During the preparatory period the future verification employees gain practical
experience of all measuring instruments relevant for verification practice.
After successful practical training the trainees from the Federal States (Bundesländer)
are admitted to the courses for verification service at DAM.
Some Federal States (Bundesländer) have the employee status (no officials) only. Nevertheless these employees can take part in the above DAM courses and examinations.
In addition to the above courses the Academy regularly holds seminars to train verification personnel of all Federal States (Bundesländer) for new tasks and fields of tasks.
Due to the quick technical development of measuring instruments and the change of tasks on the basis of the Verification Ordinance of 1998, a great number of seminars on topical themes is offered in this field with a tendency to rise.
Executive staff in test centres for gas, water, heat and electricity measuring instruments accredited by verification authorities, in accordance with the Verification Ordinance, have to prove their competence. Competence includes the technical and legal knowledge required to run a test centre.
To achieve German-wide a uniform level of legal and technical knowledge, the examinations of competence and the one-week preparatory courses regarding the individual measuring instruments are organized by DAM.
DAM is co-operating in development aid projects of the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit (BMZ), Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and Organisation Internationale de Métrologie Légale (OIML) in the fields of metrology, standardization, testing and quality assurance.
There is a trend for technical rules to be no longer included in legal provisions, but to be referred to accepted rules of technique. As the common institution of all Federal States (Bundesländer) DAM provides the verification authorities with these technical rules, which they need to fulfil their legal tasks.
